| Not too long ago my lovely girlfriend
was kind enough to sponsor a new drag race slot car. Linda is a manager at
a Goodwill store in the Sacramento area, so I figured I would use Goodwill
as the theme. I picked out a Revell Dodge Magnum Wagon for the body, when I got home I put all the body parts (except hood) together to see what I had. After some thought and staring at the body I decided that it was too tall. So I taped a line approximately 1/4 from the bottom sloping forward and trimmed it down. Next I purchased a resin blower and scoop from v8 models, then cut out hood so it fit and attached the hood to the body. |

| Now it was time for a design and
color scheme, for this I picked a primary color and at least two options
for secondary colors as well as a design pattern. For the Magnum I decided
to go with metallic blue as the primary color and silver and white for secondary
colors. For the pattern I went with some writing on the doors and flames
on the rest. The plan is to paint the doors white and the rest of the body
silver. I like to clear coat after this before taping for protection. |

|
| Then I put stencils on for the writing
on the door and masks for the flames, then I paint the metallic blue, once
that dried I removed all the masks and stencils. Then put a couple of coats
of clear coat on. Next I painted the scoop for the blower the same blue and
painted the blower gunmetal grey. Then I fastened it to a piece of lexan,
shimmed it to the height I wanted and fastened it to the car. I installed
the windows and the 2 decals (one that reads) "Yeah its got a Hemi" on back
tailgate and I made a Goodwill sticker out a business card and double sided
tape on back window. |

|
| I made the chassis out of WRP brass
mm/ps cage and front tab, connected those together with .062 piano wire,
has 3/32 axle bearings, Pro-Trac rubber, solid wire feeding a Mura 12 can
with a Koford arm and bearings. The car weighs in the neighborhood of 125
grams and runs consistently in the 1.000 range best of .977. Has more but
set to bracket race and 1.000 class even .990 sometimes. This car is as solid
as the woman that sponsored it! |
