Slip Joint Dragster
101
1. Small brass tube
so the outer rail can slide.
2. Is a hinge that the chassis needs to pivot.
3. Motor mount area the out wire gets soldered.
This is a brief on "how to make a
slip joint chassis", you will need to use your own
measurements, as each body might be different,
these are designed for dragsters
and they eliminate the use of wheelie
bars and glue. This is only a sample as how
the design is supposed to work.
You will have to figure out a couple
of things to make it your own chassis, one being
a plate on the front hinge area to add
weights, another is how to mount the body, it
has to be pinned to the front hinge area
only, some drill and tap the top of the guide
where the screw is going to be set on
the top of the front part of the body and the
back one has to be pinned on the sides
on the front hinge area. One more thing you
will need to cut all excess wire so it
fits your wheel base.

In this picture you can see where you need to mount the small brass tubing
up front, make sure that the outside wire can side back and worth.
|
|
Hinge, the chassis will need to flex, so you solder the tubing to the rear
center piano wire
|
|
Rear motor mount fits to the inside rails.
|
|
Blue tape indicates where you solder.

Now the motor mount solders to the inside rail, and the rails solders to
the outside.
Piano wire .062 for this build.

|
Once you've soldered you chassis together this is what it will look
like.
Next the body.
|
|
Use some styrene, I used some 015 to cut both sides and top.
|
|
Glue is together, I used some square stock, but you can use other materials
to accomplish the same final product.
|
|
Mounted to the chassis, you will need a plate for the driver to sit on, again
more stock and styrene .030.
|
|
ROll bar, front wheels are inserted through the body and lined up with the
guide so the nose doesn't stick out way on fron when you go to the line.
Motor made of spare parts, take the head, glue them to a manifold and then
add what you need.
